Our Story
At Urban Food Co, flavour comes first — always.
In 2008, we founded the first incarnation of Urban Food Co. with a simple mission: to create a range of seasonings with “Real Flavour.” At the time, too many products on the market relied on fillers and excess salt, delivering convenience but falling short on taste. We knew there had to be a better way.
Founded by Antony Bearman, a chef with over 30 years of experience across fine dining, large-scale hotels, and food consultancy, Urban Food Co was built on a deep understanding of how flavour really works. Antony’s background shaped every blend — balancing spices, herbs, and aromatics to create seasonings that actually enhance food rather than mask it.
Since those early days, we’ve grown, evolved, and relocated to Hamilton New Zealand, expanding our range while staying true to what mattered from the very beginning: bringing you “Real Flavour” products with no fillers. Every blend is crafted using quality ingredients, carefully sourced and thoughtfully combined to deliver bold, balanced results.
This philosophy led to The Chef Project — a collection of rubs and seasonings designed to perform just as well in professional kitchens as they do at home. With minimal sodium and maximum flavour, they’re made to inspire confidence and creativity at every level of cooking.
We also believe great flavour should be accessible. That’s why our products are available in multiple sizes, whether you’re cooking for family, running a café, or feeding a crowd.
